After a long stressful day, music would make the perfect getaway! My strategy is put on your headphone and forget what is happening around you. Simple! While writing this blog also, I try to play a few of my all time favorites. The recent chartbusters disappoints me though.
'Pon Pon Pon' and 'Fevicol se' make me realize I would not have any new playlists if this trend continues. Each and every line of the recent masaledar(as everyone says) item song 'Fevicol se' has some or the other weird interpretations. My roommate just said "Yeh kya chal raha hai?" after listening to it for the first time. Everyone has a different taste, agreed! But "Hookah bar"??! Seriously? No doubt many songs today have the the most amazing beats which would make you tap your feet even if you are not really a dancer. Talented composers like Vishal-Shekhar, Salim-Sulaimaan, Amit Trivedi, the legend A. R. Rehman and many more do keep giving some very fresh tracks which keep humming it day long. But soon you tend to get bored and start searching for some new track again. Unlike the current scenario, the songs before were special among themselves with spellbound emotions and ofcourse the wonderful lyrics.
Lyrics, however today, is not considered so very important and classical instruments not very much used. For instance, the very recent 'Ishq wala Love' makes me wonder what did the song really want to say. After some very long wait you would probably get some song you can interpret well. Being a music lover I can say there are numerous songs mesmerizing you daily. While a few which would just want you to sit and wonder how did such lyrics even get selected to turn into a song. That makes me mention 'Balma' and 'O Bawariya' which proves again that Himesh Reshamiya makes a fool of himself every single time.
Sadly, the Indian pop has changed into some old songs remixed with short skirts and sexy models. Even if there is some magic in new albums, it fails to reach the audience. I remember when singers like Sonu Nigam, Dr. Palash Sen, Alisha Chinoy, Falguni Pathak and Lucky Ali gave some charming songs. Even some amazing singers like Raghu Dixit and Sona Mohapatra fail to signify their presence simply because of lack of popularity.
Lastly, coming to the romantic songs. The movie Kya Super Kool Hai Hum didn't make much sense, but what would anyone say about 'Tere shirt da button'. 'Saans' from Jab Tak Hai Jaan was as disappointing as the movie itself. The charm in the old songs like 'Tu hi re' by Hariharan and Kavita Krishnamurthy and 'Roja' by S.P. Balasubramanium seem to have lost among the different party songs and item numbers.
Not to make the year 2012 sound musically handicapped, there is a need to mention the great soundtracks of Barfi. Even 'Muskaanein jhuthi hai' is different from how the Bollywood songs have been. Just being hopeful there are many more blissful songs to come in the next year!
